Venerable Thupten Phuntsok was born in Haiti. At the age of nine, he moved to the U.S., and was raised mainly in New York City. A student of Buddhism for over twenty-five years, Ven. Thupten Phuntsok, began his formal studies under the guidance of Kyongla Rato Rinpoche, the tenth reincarnation of the Kyongla line. In 1991, he met his root teacher, the late Sermey Khensur Rinpoche, Geshe Lobsang Tharchin. In 1993, Phuntsok received his novice vows, and a year later, his Full Ordination (Gelong) from his heart teacher and studied all the stages of the Path under his direct guidance. During his studies, he also registered as a student at Sera Mey Monastic University in South India, which he visits from time to time to continue his studies with several teachers. He is also a longtime student of HH the 14th Dalai Lama from whom he has received public teachings in different parts of the world. Ven. Phuntsok now lives in New York City and has taught meditation and Buddhist philosophy in New York, Connecticut and internationally for over fifteen years.
