About Ryoji Ikeda

Ryoji Ikeda (b. 1966) is a leading Japanese electronic composer, sound, and visual artist who lives and works in Paris and Kyoto. In his rigorous practice, he uses mathematical principles and aesthetics to focus on the essential characteristics of sound and light. Ikeda elaborately orchestrates sound, visuals, materials, physical phenomena and mathematical notions into immersive live performances and installations. He has performed and exhibited worldwide at venues including Centre Pompidou Paris, Sónar Festival Barcelona, Tate Modern London, Barbican Center London, Museo de Arte Bogota, Hamburger Bahnhof Berlin and Festival d’Automne in Paris. test pattern, a project that has taken many forms, was previous imagined for the Park Avenue Armory in 2011, and his US debut work the transcendental was seen as part of Crossing the Line 2010.
