An Evening with Isild Le Besco

Tuesday, September 25, 2007
7pm Half-Price / Demi-tarif
8pm Meet the Director: Isild Le Besco
9pm US Premiere! Charly

Not yet twenty-five, but a veteran of cinema with more than two dozen films under her belt, Isild Le Besco has gained notice for performances in films such as Sade and Roberto Succo, and is considered one of France’s most promising young actresses. Precocious and multi-talented, she made her directorial debut with Half-Price, her groundbreaking portrayal of childhood (which she wrote at age 16), instantly marking her a filmmaker to watch.

FIAF is proud to have “The Wild Child of French Cinema” (The New York Times), on hand to discuss her career in front of and behind the camera following a screening of Half-Price. After the Q&A, Le Besco will present a sneak preview of her latest film, Charly.

Three young siblings live alone in a shabby Parisian apartment. Abandoned by their mother, they eat sweets, shoplift, and attend school, all the while striving to keep their orphaned existence a secret. This story, told from the kids’ point of view, is enhanced by Le Besco’s clever camerawork, giving an unshakable feeling that we are seeing children in a new way.
