The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
Le Scaphandre et le Papillon

Monday, November 12, 2007 at 7pm

Dir. Julian Schnabel, 2007.
Color. 112 min.
With Mathieu Almaric, Emmanuelle Seigner, Max von Sydow
Winner of Best Director at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly recounts the remarkable true story of Jean-Dominique Bauby, former Editor-in-Chief of Elle France. At the age of 43, Bauby suffered a massive stroke that rendered him completely paralyzed, but with an active mind. Acclaimed New York painter and director Julian Schnabel recreates Bauby's journey as he travels through his memories and escapes his “locked-in” existence.

"Director Julian Schnabel ... has performed a small miracle in adapting for the screen The Diving Bell and the Butterfly." –Hollywood Reporter
