Part of I Kiffe NY: French Urban Cultures Festival
Produced by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy
Co-presented by FIAF

Kader Attou’s group Accrorap, and their new piece, provide a dance form that communicates a will to survive. The performance setting is sober and even aggressive— suggesting urban malaise through a single clothesline against a gray backdrop. Transcending geographical frontiers, Accrorap demonstrates an ability to combine cultural influences, creating a response to societal dissatisfaction both at home and abroad. The pure and harsh dance of these hip-hop artists fights against repression, straining to break free from the obvious urban definitions to a broader social context.
