Conversation in English between Florence
Aubenas (Le quai de Ouistreham) and Ted Conover (Newjack:
Guarding Sing Sing and The Routes of Man: How Roads
Are Changing the World and the Way We Live Today).
Journalists often move from observers to active participants
in the worlds they describe. To immerse themselves in the
community they seek to report on, they may change their appearance
and identity. Aubenas became unemployed and immersed herself
in the world of unskilled and insecure employees; Conover
transformed himself into a guard at Sing Sing, one of the
most notorious prisons in the U.S.
