ARTENOL's International Editor at Large, Cheryl Kaplan, is an artist, filmmaker and writer. As Founder/Director of red square, Kaplan created a series of public debates with over 200 contemporary artists in New York and London that first launched at the Royal Academy of Arts, Deitch Projects and the Serpentine Gallery. She has been awarded fellowships and artist in residencies at the Royal Academy of Arts, (London), the Bogliasco Foundation,(Italy), and the MacDowell Colony. Selected for Creative Capital's On Our Radar, Kaplan's work has been exhibited and performed at the BMW Guggenheim LAB, Andrea Meislin Gallery, American Academy Rome, Royal Academy of Arts, London and the World Financial Center, among others. Her writing and interviews appear in Art in America, ELLE, BOMB, ArtNews, Deutsche Bank Art Mag and the Forward. Kaplan has produced films for Laurie Anderson, Eve Sussman and Rosanne Cash that have been Official Selections at international film festivals from Tribeca to Locarno. On screen, Cheryl Kaplan appears in and contributed cinematography to Alan Berliner's Oscar nominated film, First Cousin Once Removed about the poet Edwin Honig. A newly launched live series of debates, produced and conceived by Cheryl Kaplan, called ARTENOL PRESENTS: THE GREAT DEBATE will take place on December 11, 2015 at Overthrow Boxing Club. Kaplan will be in the ring with Philosopher Alva Noë, Choreographer Moriah Evans and Artist Jeffrey Gibson. The event will be introduced by Artenol Founder, Artist Alex Melamid. Noë's ground-breaking book, Strange Tools: Art and Human Nature will fuel the debate.
