Arman: Accumulation of Friends |
| Wednesday, April 18 - Tuesday, May 15 |
This unique exhibition explores the personal photography of the Frenchborn American sculptor Arman, one of the founders of the art movement Nouveau Réalisme. Memories of a rich life with his many friends, these photographs are displayed for the first time in this country.
Famous for his sculptures and “Accumulations,” Arman (1928-2005) came to New York in 1961 and stayed for the rest of his life. This exhibition features candid portraits of the artists he met and befriended, including most of the leading American figures of the time, such as Marcel Duchamp, Robert Indiana, Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, Frank Stella, and Andy Warhol. These images form a historic portrait of the vibrant art scene that was New York in the 1960s and 70s.
