To launch the second
annual World Nomads series, FIAF and S.O.B.’S
present the pioneering mizik rasin band, RAM,
whose “voodoo rock n’ roots” sound has become the musical
voice of a generation of Haitians. Founded by lead vocalist
Richard A. Morse, RAM came into prominence during the military
junta of Raoul Cédras. The band has survived kidnapping and
assassination attempts, bringing a message of freedom and
hope to Port-au-Prince through their weekly performances
at the Hotel Oloffson and subsequent recordings. Many perceive
RAM as the voice of Haiti, and it is with pride and in the
spirit of unity that FIAF and S.O.B.’S bring the group to
New York for this special one-night-only concert.
