Molière
Laurent Tirard, 2007. Color. 120 min.
With Romain Duris, Fabrice Luchini, Ludivine Sagnier
A work of lively speculative historical fiction, Molière begins
in a debtor’s prison where a nameless benefactor bails out
the failed actor Jean-Baptiste Poquelin (not yet known as
Molière). The actor is taken to a private estate, where he
embarks on a series of follies which serve as inspiration
for his later satirical plays. Although mostly fictional,
the film features actual quotes from Molière's plays, and
gives thoughtful insight into the creation of a legendary
artist. |
