This summer for the
very first time, the internationally acclaimed Festival
d’Aix-en-Provence is brought to New York audiences, through
the telecast of Mozart’s opera Idomeneo, Re di
Creta at FIAF’s Florence Gould Hall.
A new production created specifically for the Festival
d’Aix, the performance will be recorded live on July 10,
2009 at the Théâtre de l’Archevêché in Aix-en-Provence.
Written by Mozart at the age of 25, Idomeneo, Re
di Creta is a drama per musica in three acts. It is
a passionate hymn to youth and to reason that explores
the ideas of sacrifice and duty, systems of faith and belief,
and the trials of building a bright and hopeful future.
