Spend an evening with one of France’s most important film producers as FIAF screens a special screening of Marin Karmitz–A Life at the Movies and hosts an exclusive conversation with the man himself.
Director and producer Felix Von Boehm rewrites Marin Karmitz’s personal and professional history by accompanying him to places that have marked his life: to Cannes, Switzerland, and Nice where he arrived in France as a refugee in 1947. Based on intimate interviews with Karmitz and featuring contributions from directors such as Abbas Kiarostami, Michael Haneke and Agnès Varda, as well as interviews with Karmitz’s friends including Juliette Binoche, Christian Boltanski, and Caroline Eliacheff. Felix Van Boehm draws a delicate and sensitive portrait of the founder of the MK2 group.
Part of the 40th Anniversary celebrations of MK2 at MoMA and other New York institutions.
Co-presented with Union Docs.
After opening his first theater in the revolutionary aftermath of May 1968, Marin Karmitz continued to advance the cause of film through MK2, an independent, family-owned company that operates the most prestigious art cinemas in France, manages a catalog of classics that includes work by Chaplin, Truffaut, Chabrol, and Kieślowski, and continues to produce films of personal vision without regard for national boundaries.
