In English, Jean Vallier will discuss Duras’s
work as a playwright and director, and
explore the question: How can Duras’s
“word” be best brought to life for today’s
audiences?
A true expert, Vallier knew Duras
personally and has written two books
about the legendary writer, both
published in 2006: Marguerite Duras,
la vie comme un roman (Editions Textuel,
Albums Passion); and C’était Marguerite
Duras, 1914–1945 (Editions Fayard), the
first of a two-volume biography. The
second volume covering the latter half
of her life (1946–1996) will be published
in February 2010.
