Paris-bred Gilles Mendel, heir apparent and head
designer of J. Mendel, comes to FIAF to talk about the reinvention
of this fifth-generation, family-owned luxury brand.
J. Mendel was founded in 1870 in Paris and has been known
since then to the world’s fashion elite. Gilles Mendel revitalized
the brand in 2003 by moving its headquarters to New York
and launching its ready-to-wear collection. A resounding
success, the collection demonstrated Mendel’s ability to
work in materials ranging from silk chiffon to woolen tweeds,
creating refined yet modern designs that have made J. Mendel
a red carpet staple and a favorite of stars like Kate Hudson
and Demi Moore.
