FIAF and Eric Bedoucha, Executive Pastry Chef and Partner of Financier Pâtisserie, invite you to celebrate Galette des Rois, a beloved French tradition. Experience this custom and savor the delicious Galette, a puff pastry cake filled with a buttery smooth mix of almond and pastry cream. Toast the new year with a delicious glass of wine as you wait to see who is crowned King or Queen!
Since the Middle Ages, the festival of the Epiphany on January 6 has been celebrated in France with the Galette des Rois, literally the Kings’ cake. Made of puff pastry that is either plain or filled with frangipane, an almond-flavored paste, each galette contains a small, hand-painted porcelain charm, or fève. Find the fève, and become King or Queen (with gold paper crown) for the day! The modern galette, sold in all French bakeries in the beginning of January, remains a popular tradition that brings friends and family together for a special fête.
