Special Event Galette des Rois Celebration
Wednesday, January 8, 2014
About the Galette
Back by popular demand, Galette
des Rois is the perfect way to celebrate la nouvelle année !
Experience this beloved French tradition, and enjoy the delicious
galette, made specially by Executive
Pastry Chef and Partner of Financier
Pâtisserie, Eric Bedoucha. Pair your
slice of rich, decadent cake with a
glass of bubbly and wait to see who
is crowned King or Queen.
Since the Middle Ages, the festival of the Epiphany on January 6 has been celebrated in France with the Galette des Rois, literally the Kings’ cake. Made of puff pastry that is either plain or filled with frangipane, an almond-flavored paste, each galette contains a small, hand-painted porcelain charm, or fève. Find the fève, and become King or Queen (with gold paper crown) for the day! The modern galette, sold in all French bakeries in the beginning of January, remains a popular tradition that brings friends and family together for a special fête.
The FIAF Winter 2014 season is sponsored by Air France and Delta Air Lines, the official airlines of FIAF; the Cultural Services of the French Embassy; the Florence Gould Foundation; the Institut français; National Endowment for the Arts, Art Works; New York State Council on the Arts; NYC Department of Cultural Affairs; the French-American Fund for Contemporary Theater, a program of FACE; The Peter Jay Sharp Foundation; and Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie.
