A chance meeting between a pair of strangers and the bond they unexpectedly forge serve as the basis for this, one of Leconte’s most acclaimed films. Stranded in a train station, career criminal Milan (Hallyday) is left with little to do but chat with Manesquier (Rochefort), a retired teacher. As their conversation continues each man comes to realize how strongly they wish to surrender their own lives and embrace the other’s.

Adèle, having endured a young lifetime of suffering, jumps from a bridge only to be rescued by Gabor, an aging knife-thrower who suggests that she become the target for his latest act. Shot in highly stylized black-and-white, the film is both an homage to Fellini and Truffaut and an erotic original.
