“[Bonnaire] makes a touching, educational directorial debut.” – Lisa Nesselson, Variety
Join Sandrine Bonnaire, acclaimed French actress and director, for a Q&A session following the screening of Her Name is Sabine (Elle s’appelle Sabine). This documentary is Bonnaire’s first foray as a director, offering a sensitive portrait of her sister, Sabine Bonnaire, a 38-year-old autistic woman. The audience follows Sabine through the eyes of her family via personal videos, over a period of 25 years, concluding with her life today in a suitable facility.
Her Name is Sabine shows us an endearing personality, whose growth and many talents were crushed by an inadequate care structure. After a tragic five-year stay in a psychiatric hospital, Sabine found a new lease on life - even if these capacities remain altered - in a home in the Charente region. The film exposes the penury of specialized institutions and their dramatic consequences.
*The evening will include a post-film Q&A session with the director, Sandrine Bonnaire.
Tickets for a post-film reception in Le Skyroom,
to benefit the Quality Services for the Autism Community (QSAC) are also available. |
