FIAF presents a sneak peek at Tokyo!, a new film
from three visionary directors—Michel Gondry, Leos
Carax, and Bong Joon-ho—who come together to create a multi-part
film that examines the nature of one unforgettable city.
The ravishing and inimitable Tokyo is seen through the kaleidoscope
of people who live, work, and play inside this constantly
evolving Japanese megalopolis.
Intended as collaboration, Tokyo! is a fantasy in
three movements—Interior Design, by beloved international
sensation Michel Gondry; Merde, from acclaimed filmmaker
Leos Carax and staring Denis Lavant; and Shaking Tokyo,
a romantic vignette by Bong Joon-ho, whose film The Host catapulted
him to world-wide recognition. In the tradition of Paris,
Je t’aime, Tokyo! addresses the timeless question
of whether inhabitants shape cities, or if cities shape their
inhabitants, while revealing the rich humanity at the heart
of modern urban life.
Michel Gondry and Leos Carax will be present to introduce the screening.
