Winter 2018 Contest

Acrostiche sur la Francophonie

Create text in French following the model of an acrostic poem with the word Francophonie.

An acrostic (acrostiche) is a series of sentences or verses in which the first letters when taken in order spell out a word or a phrase.

Example: In the poem Adieu, Poèmes à Lou (Gallimard, 1955), Guillaume Apollinaire wrote the name LOULOU.

Lettres! Envoie aussi des lettres, ma chérie
On aime en recevoir dans notre artillerie
Une par jour au moins, une au moins, je t’en prie [...]
L’heure est venue, Adieu, l’heure de ton départ
On va rentrer, il est neuf heures moins le quart
Une...deux...trois...Adieux de Nîmes, dans le Gard.

Using the same process, create your own acrostic in French with the word FRANCOPHONIE, in honor of Le Mois de la Francophonie, a global fete celebrating the diversity of French speakers that takes place each year in March.

Entries will be evaluated for the originality and creativity of the concept, quality of French, and vocabulary used.

Contest can be done individually or in a group. Email your entry to or drop it off at the Language Center office on the 3rd floor (22 East 60th Street). Include your full name, teacher’s name, and class level.

Submit your entry by noon on Tuesday, March 20.
