Course Description

Here is all you always wanted to know about France … and never got a chance to ask! Although she stands out in the world as one Nation, united and indivisible, France is actually a patchwork of regions!!

General de Gaulle once cracked a joke about how challenging, if not impossible, it was to try to unite the French people who happen to live in a country which produces about 265 different kinds of cheeses…

This course, is a comprehensive study of the major regions of ancient and modern France highlighting each region’s unique history, geography, politics, economy, and culture, in order to improve listening, reading, research, and conversation skills. This innovative and diversified course is conducted with the audio-visual support of documentaries and short films, as well as websites.

Objectives

  • Widen your vocabulary in the areas of history, geography, literature, etc.
  • Broaden your knowledge of the major regions of France
  • Understand the important concept of “terroir”, a.k.a. region
  • Discover the various historical, geographical and cultural aspects of France as seen through the eyes of its famous writers, artists and intellectuals, as they speak about their native region
  • Improve your hearing and reading comprehension skills
  • Become skilled at summarizing and discussing a text, as you will be asked to do some personal research and oral presentations
  • Surprise bonus: a chance to plan your future vacation in France … at no extra cost!
