Vice President of Marketing and Communications

Designation: Exempt full-time

Position Summary: Lead the Marketing & Communications department to develop, implement, and oversee the execution of marketing programs for FIAF. Liaise with all other key FIAF departments and locations, including satellites in Montclair, NJ, and Brooklyn, NY. Serve as the principal marketing representative within the organization and as a key member of the FIAF Executive Team.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and promote the FIAF brand and all of FIAF’s programs and services across all platforms and locations.
  • Manage ten-person Marketing and Communications team.
  • Oversee daily operations of all marketing and press activities.
  • Maintain marketing calendar and juggle multiple high-priority, deadline-sensitive items.
  • Supervise and edit engaging copy for all FIAF materials, including publications and print and online advertisements.
  • Supervise development of FIAF.org and manage site content with Web Programmer and Digital Marketing Manager.
  • Supervise implementation and execution of multi-platform marketing campaigns including advertising (print, radio, online, outdoor, etc.), direct mail (seasonal calendars, brochures, postcards, etc.), and digital (website, online promotions, email promotions, social media, mobile).
  • Supervise social media strategy and development of FIAF brand on all social media platforms.
  • Analyze marketing efforts and sales patterns; oversee market research.
  • Manage marketing budgets for Marketing and Communications, cultural programs, Language Center, Membership, and Library.
  • Work closely with Artistic Director, VP of Membership, and VP of Education, as well as other members of the Executive Team to create and implement marketing strategies and campaigns to drive class registrations, membership sign-ups, ticket sales for all events, and donations.
  • Establish and cultivate advertiser relationships, media partnerships, and relationships with other NYC cultural organizations.

Qualifications

  • BA in Marketing, Communications, or related field
  • 7+ years demonstrated professional growth in marketing with some experience in cultural nonprofits required
  • Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills in English (native speaker)
  • Budget management experience
  • Knowledge of French is preferred
  • Appreciation of French culture is crucial
  • Proficiency with basic computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Sense of humor
  • Knowledge of InDesign a plus

Manager of Special Events & Development

Reports to: FIAF President and the Development Department Director

Position Summary: Under the supervision of the President and the Development Department Director, this position plays an important role in managing our development efforts. The manager will be responsible for planning and coordinating both the content and the logistics of FIAF’s special events within the framework of the Development Department’s mission, which is to raise funds for FIAF and to cultivate our patrons.

Duties:

  • Manage the planning and programming of special events listed below and additional cocktails, conferences, etc. as needed:
    • Organize the annual Trophée des Arts Gala - Secure auction items, plan run of the show and production, and manage ticket and table reservations.
    • Organize the annual Art de Vivre Award - Secure auction items, plan run of the show and production, and manage ticket and table reservations.
    • Organize the annual Bastille Day on 60th Street celebration – Define main themes highlighting aspects of French culture and develop and organize performances, activities, raffles and vendors surrounding these themes.
    • Identify themes relating to each topic that appeal to a large audience and/or serve as good fundraisers.
  • Produce events, manage logistics, and supervise customer service:
    • Confirm and reserve event location in FIAF facility or, if off-site, coordinate with site staff
    • Manage and oversee staff and volunteer teams, including run of the show
    • Mentor department interns 
  • Establish budget for each event:
    • Manage sponsorship revenues, ticket sales, and expenses
    • Optimize each program to insure lower expenses and maximum revenues
  • Coordinate the publication of event-related print and digital marketing materials with marketing team:
    • Define message for each event, keeping in mind best strategies for ticket sales
    • Ensure that marketing materials properly acknowledge all event supporters and sponsors
  • Coordinate outreach efforts and development of relationships with other organizations and build partnerships to extend FIAF’s message and generate financial support:
    • Identify potential sponsors and supporters for events
    • Create proposals for partnership, contracts, and general relationship management, including FIAF patron groups
    • Manage in-kind donations and visibility for donors
    • Manage donor recognition (database, thank you letters)
    • Research the French community in New York, attend events related to French business or culture to develop an active network of sponsors, donors, and friends of FIAF

Skills:

  • Knowledge of French preferred
  • Strong project management skills required
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities successfully
  • Ability to work independently; prioritize tasks; and exercise good judgment and initiative
  • Available to attend a number of evening events
  • Proficiency with basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc)
  • Positive attitude, team player, sense of humor

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master's Degree preferred

The FIAF Preschool in the Upper East Side (Manhattan). Our mission is to provide a joyful entry into French language and culture, combining the best of the école maternelle and American preschool experience to help each child reach his/her full potential. The FIAF Preschool is taught entirely in French for a fully immersive language experience.

Position Summary: The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) Preschool, a French immersion program for toddlers ages 3 and 4 is looking for a teacher (2016-2017 school year), who will be responsible for planning and implementing developmentally-appropriate activities designed to promote social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth in preschool children.

Responsibilities:

  • Foster enthusiasm for active participation in the learning process.
  • Understand the developmental milestones of young children.
  • Promote learning in the areas of social-emotional, language, cognitive, and physical development.
  • Plan and implement an age-appropriate, challenging curriculum for children. Develop lesson plans that are meaningful and age-appropriate.

We are looking for an enthusiastic teacher of French as foreign language to teach French language and culture to young children, teens and adults. The teacher will plan, implement and assess lessons and will teach with patience and creativity. The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) in Montclair, NJ is a branch of the New York French Institute Alliance Française in Manhattan.

FIAF is a leading French language and cultural center in the U.S. Since 1898, FIAF has been dedicated to creating and offering New Yorkers innovative and unique programs in education and the arts, all exploring the evolving diversity and richness of French cultures.

The FIAF Language Center is the largest language school dedicated to teaching the French language in the tristate area. With more than 7,000 registrations annually, we offer French in three convenient locations: Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Brooklyn’s Carroll Gardens, and Montclair, NJ. FIAF offers learning programs for adults, toddlers (ages 1-4), kids (5-10) and teens (11-17) from beginner to advanced levels, including French for native-speakers. Programs also include one-day workshops and teacher professional trainings.

Responsibilities

Teaching Artists

The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) invites dynamic, experienced, and creative Teaching Artists to apply to our 2015-2016 In-School Arts Education Program. Teaching Artists in all disciplines are encouraged to apply.

The Program
FIAF matches Teaching Artists with public middle schools in under-served New York City neighborhoods to lead weekly, sequential arts workshops during regular school hours with classes of 15-25 students (1-3 per school). These workshops introduce students to Francophone cultures and a specific artistic discipline while empowering and inspiring students through the hands-on process of creating their own final projects.

At the end of each workshop, students’ final art projects are displayed in FIAF’s Gallery.

During the 2015-2016 school year, these workshops will span approximately 24 weeks between September 2015 and April 2016. Each class will participate for the full 24-week sequence.

Criteria

  • Native French speaker with excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Excellent teaching ability, including experience with classroom teaching and curriculum development. Prior experience with adolescents and NYC public schools a plus.
  • Artistic excellence, including quality and scope of artistic work and depth of knowledge within an artistic discipline.
  • Collaborative attitude and willingness to adapt to diverse student populations.
