Corporate & Private Instruction Programs Manager

The FIAF Language Center is the largest language school dedicated to teaching the French language in the tri-state area. With more than 7,000 registrations annually, we offer French in three convenient locations: Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Brooklyn’s Carroll Gardens, and Montclair, NJ.

Position Summary: The Manager of Corporate and Individual instruction Programs, a full-time position, is responsible for the conception, development, organization and promotion of onsite and offsite individual and corporate instruction teaching programs for the Language Center of the French Institute Alliance Française, the largest French language school in the United States.

Main Responsibilities:The Manager is committed to the highest level of customer service and strives to foster excellent public relations as a key motivation. The Manager is under the direct supervision of the Vice President of Education of FIAF, and works with the other FIAF departments to ensure a coordinated and unified service.

  • The Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the FIAF Language Center: scheduling of classes and instructors, submission of proposals to clients, bidding, follow-up at the administrative and pedagogical levels, budgeting and billing, statistics, technology enhancements, reports and development of customized programs.
  • The Manager is responsible for the development of the corporate client base: canvassing of clients, establishment of sales objectives, statistics, and creation of marketing campaigns and materials.
  • The Manager is responsible for the development of new products and services in response to evolving corporate and private needs and ensures long-term planning of the service.

Additional Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Customer service

  • Answers questions by phone and email
  • Receives and greets onsite clients
  • Studies needs analysis and elaboration of appropriate solutions
  • Registers students by phone and online
  • Processes course transfers
  • Prepares invoices and billing (classes and books)

Management and Development

  • Supervises one part-time assistant
  • Plans strategies to increase enrollment through research and development
  • Develops customer recruitment objectives (researches, presents programs to corporate HR representatives, etc.)
  • Creates marketing materials in print and for the web
  • Develops new products and services

Office Administration

  • Schedules teachers and classes; coordination of schedules
  • Submits teachers’ payrolls to accounting
  • Maintains database of all corporate and private clients and billings
  • Coordinates with teachers and other Language Center Staff
  • Deals with daily changes and updates, cancellations and rescheduling
  • Maintains attendance and student performance records
  • Prepares statistics reports

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Commercial background experience
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Computer literacy a must
  • Organized, detail-oriented and multitasking skills
  • Valid US permit/visa
  • Good level of French required

Public Relations Intern

Compensation: Monthly stipend. French classes and membership are also offered.

Position Summary: We are looking for a highly motivated Public Relations (PR) Intern with loads of personality and a solid interest in learning about the industry and creating key working contacts. We are seeking to fill a full-time internship, starting immediately, with a minimum commitment of 24 hours per week for six months.

The right candidate will help execute the department’s media strategy for the organization’s diverse programs, including: performing arts, film, visual arts, food and wine events, fashion, book events, etc. The intern will become familiarized with the New York media landscape while helping to secure coverage of FIAF’s broad range of cultural programming. He/she will be the right hand to the PR Director and support FIAF’s mission of increasing knowledge of the French language and interaction among French, Francophone and American cultures.

What to expect:

  • On-the-job experience in the Marketing & Communications department and great exposure to the best of contemporary French culture in New York.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct daily media monitoring and organize/produce press books
  • Manage all event listings and help with pitching
  • Research new media outlets and update press lists
  • Collaborate on press releases for programs and events
  • Support the PR Director on-site at FIAF events
  • General administrative/marketing duties

Education/Skills Required:

  • Bachelor of Arts degree or higher
  • Motivation to work in the PR industry
  • Strong writing skills – must be native English speaker
  • Strong attention to detail, well organized and able to multi-task
  • Strong interest in the arts and desire to work in a Francophile/multi-cultural environment

Videographer Intern

Position Summary: The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) seeks a talented, creative, and experienced candidate for the open position of Videographer Intern. We are seeking to fill an unpaid, full-time internship lasting for a duration of 6-12 months.

Under the direction of the Vice President of Marketing & Communications and the Social Media Coordinator, the Videographer Intern is responsible for filming and editing all of FIAF’s video content. The intern will also be expected to play a role in the development of new video projects and the distribution of existing video assets.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining and organizing FIAF’s existing video assets
  • Brainstorming and developing new video projects
  • Creating and presenting storyboards
  • Writing scripts
  • Scouting locations and obtaining permits
  • Filming events at FIAF and around town
  • Maintaining equipment
  • Editing
  • Liaising with department heads and outside clients

Qualifications:

  • Must be comfortable editing in Final Cut Pro
  • Some knowledge of After Effects preferable
  • Familiarity with various types of cameras, lights, microphones, etc…
  • Extreme attention to detail
  • Organized and timely
  • Familiar with social media platforms
  • Fluent English required
  • Fluent French preferred

We are looking for an enthusiastic teacher of French as foreign language to teach French language and culture to young children, teens and adults. The teacher will plan, implement and assess lessons and will teach with patience and creativity. The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) in Montclair, NJ is a branch of the New York French Institute Alliance Française in Manhattan.

FIAF is a leading French language and cultural center in the U.S. Since 1898, FIAF has been dedicated to creating and offering New Yorkers innovative and unique programs in education and the arts, all exploring the evolving diversity and richness of French cultures.

The FIAF Language Center is the largest language school dedicated to teaching the French language in the tristate area. FIAF offers learning programs for adults, toddlers (ages 1-4), kids (5-10) and teens (11-17) from beginner to advanced levels, including French for native-speakers. Responsibilities

Teaching Artists

The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) invites dynamic, experienced, and creative Teaching Artists to apply to our 2015-2016 In-School Arts Education Program. Teaching Artists in all disciplines are encouraged to apply.

The Program
FIAF matches Teaching Artists with public middle schools in under-served New York City neighborhoods to lead weekly, sequential arts workshops during regular school hours with classes of 15-25 students (1-3 per school). These workshops introduce students to Francophone cultures and a specific artistic discipline while empowering and inspiring students through the hands-on process of creating their own final projects.

At the end of each workshop, students’ final art projects are displayed in FIAF’s Gallery.

During the 2015-2016 school year, these workshops will span approximately 24 weeks between September 2015 and April 2016. Each class will participate for the full 24-week sequence.

Criteria

  • Native French speaker with excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Excellent teaching ability, including experience with classroom teaching and curriculum development. Prior experience with adolescents and NYC public schools a plus.
  • Artistic excellence, including quality and scope of artistic work and depth of knowledge within an artistic discipline.
  • Collaborative attitude and willingness to adapt to diverse student populations.
