Marketing Manager for the Language Center

Reports To: Vice President of Marketing & Communications
Designation: Exempt full-time

The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) is seeking a highly-organized, self-motivated Marketing Manager for the Language Center to work with the Vice President of Marketing & Communications to develop, implement, and oversee the execution of marketing for FIAF's Language Center.

Principal Responsibilities:


  • Work with the VP to devise and implement new strategies for acquisition of new Language Center students in addition to retention of current students
  • Assist in creation of marketing plans, market analysis, and recommendations for class offerings
  • Work with VP of Marketing and Communications as well as the VP of the Language Center to identify and research targets for cross promotion and partnerships
  • Ensure all marketing activities are aligned with the FIAF brand

Campaign Execution

  • Write and edit copy ranging from marketing materials (print, web, email) to class descriptions
  • Maintain Language Center pages on the FIAF website
  • Oversee design process (submission, routing, printing) of all FIAF marketing print materials and publications related to Language Center
  • Conceive and manage all ad buys (print and digital) and place all advertising related to LC
  • Plan and execute seasonal direct mail campaigns
  • Work with PR to ensure regular listings for Language Center programs and provide writing support for press releases for Language Center programs

Research & Analysis

  • Track and analyze progress in registrations for each session
  • Regularly benchmark competition and asses our offerings
  • Help create and analyze student surveys
  • Create regular reports assessing effectiveness of marketing campaigns
  • Research key trends in foreign language education and PR coverage for education (Education issues, summer camp issues)


  • BA in Marketing, Communications, or related field
  • Preferred 3+ years demonstrated professional growth in marketing or related field
  • Preferred experience in an academic environment and/or new client acquisition
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills
  • Strong project management skills required
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities successfully
  • Ability to work independently; prioritize tasks; and exercise good judgment and initiative
  • Available to attend occasional evening events
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills (written and verbal)
  • Knowledge of French strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc)
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite preferred but not mandatory

FIAF Preschool Teacher

The FIAF Preschool in the Upper East Side (Manhattan). Our mission is to provide a joyful entry into French language and culture, combining the best of the école maternelle and American preschool experience to help each child reach his/her full potential. The FIAF Preschool is taught entirely in French for a fully immersive language experience.

Position Summary: The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) Preschool, a French immersion program for toddlers ages 2.5-4 is looking for a teacher starting March 20, 2017, who will be responsible for planning and implementing developmentally-appropriate activities designed to promote social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth in preschool children.


  • Foster enthusiasm for active participation in the learning process.
  • Understand the developmental milestones of young children.
  • Promote learning in the areas of social-emotional, language, cognitive, and physical development.
  • Plan and implement an age-appropriate, challenging curriculum for children. Develop lesson plans that are meaningful and age-appropriate.
  • Provide a wide variety of learning opportunities, including individual, small and large group activities, both indoors and outside.
  • Listen and respond to parent concerns in a responsible, constructive and resourceful manner.
  • Attend weekly lesson-planning with Educational Director.
  • Organize field trips related to class projects.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate standards of student behavior utilizing a variety of behavior management strategies and techniques.
  • Actively seek opportunities for professional development in early childhood education.
  • Provide for the physical safety of children through anticipation and removal of hazards, visual observation of children active or at rest, and by appropriately responding to injuries.

  • Native French speaking with a proficiency level of English
  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education (Master’s degree preferred)
  • Certified to teach in NYS or have of French equivalent with 3 years of comparable experience (French immersion program).

Public Relations Intern

Compensation: Monthly stipend. French classes and membership are also offered.

Position Summary: We are looking for a highly motivated Public Relations (PR) Intern with loads of personality and a solid interest in learning about the industry and creating key working contacts. We are seeking to fill a full-time internship, starting immediately, with a minimum commitment of 24 hours per week for six months.

The right candidate will help execute the department’s media strategy for the organization’s diverse programs, including: performing arts, film, visual arts, food and wine events, fashion, book events, etc. The intern will become familiarized with the New York media landscape while helping to secure coverage of FIAF’s broad range of cultural programming. He/she will be the right hand to the PR Director and support FIAF’s mission of increasing knowledge of the French language and interaction among French, Francophone and American cultures.

What to expect:

  • On-the-job experience in the Marketing & Communications department and great exposure to the best of contemporary French culture in New York.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct daily media monitoring and organize/produce press books

We are looking for an enthusiastic teacher of French as foreign language to teach French language and culture to young children, teens and adults. The teacher will plan, implement and assess lessons and will teach with patience and creativity. The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) in Montclair, NJ is a branch of the New York French Institute Alliance Française in Manhattan.

FIAF is a leading French language and cultural center in the U.S. Since 1898, FIAF has been dedicated to creating and offering New Yorkers innovative and unique programs in education and the arts, all exploring the evolving diversity and richness of French cultures.

The FIAF Language Center is the largest language school dedicated to teaching the French language in the tristate area. With more than 7,000 registrations annually, we offer French in three convenient locations: Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Brooklyn’s Carroll Gardens, and Montclair, NJ. FIAF offers learning programs for adults, toddlers (ages 1-4), kids (5-10) and teens (11-17) from beginner to advanced levels, including French for native-speakers. Teaching Artists

The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) invites dynamic, experienced, and creative Teaching Artists to apply to our 2015-2016 In-School Arts Education Program. Teaching Artists in all disciplines are encouraged to apply.

The Program
FIAF matches Teaching Artists with public middle schools in under-served New York City neighborhoods to lead weekly, sequential arts workshops during regular school hours with classes of 15-25 students (1-3 per school). These workshops introduce students to Francophone cultures and a specific artistic discipline while empowering and inspiring students through the hands-on process of creating their own final projects.

At the end of each workshop, students’ final art projects are displayed in FIAF’s Gallery.

During the 2015-2016 school year, these workshops will span approximately 24 weeks between September 2015 and April 2016. Each class will participate for the full 24-week sequence.


  • Native French speaker with excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Excellent teaching ability, including experience with classroom teaching and curriculum development. Prior experience with adolescents and NYC public schools a plus.
  • Artistic excellence, including quality and scope of artistic work and depth of knowledge within an artistic discipline.
