Vice President of Education

Department: Language Center
Reports To: President

The Vice President of Education serves as Director of FIAF Language Center, is responsible for curriculum development, organization and management, and for the administration and management of the day-to-day operations of the Language Center.

Responsibilities & Duties (include but are not limited to):

Operations and Finance:

  • Elaborate and oversee a yearly $3.5M budget: Manage day-to-day operations including budget development and oversight, management of space, fixtures and equipment
  • Oversee management of function and operation of courses (250 courses including corporate, private, adult and children) and other special programs
  • Oversee and manage Montclair (New Jersey) branch
  • Plan and oversee registration operations
  • Oversee FIAF preschool operations and expansion of its current two classes with half-day and full-day options and nursery & pre-k classes

Human Resources:

  • Management of human resources, including 6,000 students,150 children, 90 teachers, 9 staff, hourly employees for registration
  • Ability to hire and fire teachers and staff members

Pedagogy:

  • Direct and coordinate FIAF’s efforts to incorporate new technologies into our educational program and curricula
  • Assist teachers in planning lessons and activities using new technologies to teach French language and culture within an integrated curriculum
  • Plan, monitor and manage faculty development, training and performance: set clear, relevant standards for evaluation and objectives for improving effectiveness

Development and communication:

  • Direct and coordinate the planning and development of programs and curricula designed to meet the needs of students of French language and culture at all levels
  • Confer with teachers and staff members to plan and develop programs, curricula and instructional materials
  • Meet with corporations and new clients to expand our off-site programs
  • Direct preparation of publicity to promote activities including personnel recruitment and educational programs
  • Represent FIAF in developing strategies and providing support to other members of the Alliance Francaise network in North America
  • Support local New York school system, public and private, to offer programs of French as a Foreign Language

Qualifications/Requirements

Director of Membership

Department: Membership

The Director of Membership is responsible for oversight of FIAF’s 10,000 members and achieving institutional contributed income goals within a budget of $250,000. He/she will liaise with the Marketing Department to develop strategies with customer analysis and aid in development, patron retention, and loyalty of our membership base. Our members are divided into four distinct groups: General, Students, Premier and Corporate Members.

The Director of Membership will work with the President and Development team to identify and cultivate prospective patrons to maximize contributed income for Membership and the institution. He/She will work closely with and supervise the Membership Manager.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Plan annual goals and strategies for membership giving and cultivation/stewardship events with a focus on building a portfolio of donors.
  • Develop and manage yearly budget of $250,000
  • Oversee the Membership Manager
  • Establish and cultivate network of contacts in the French-American community to acquire new high-level donors and members
  • Meet challenging membership quota on quarterly basis.
  • Oversee redesign of Membership marketing materials and new membership benefits
  • Act as personal contact for FIAF’s upper level members to build loyalty
  • Foster strong relationships with Premier members in their respective segment such as Cercle d’Amies and Young Patrons
  • Conceive, oversee and host exclusive monthly events for Young Patron, Cercle d’Amies and Premier Member groups and other events for membership base (Open House, Holiday Party, Galette des Rois event and others)
  • Working with Development team, seek in-kind sponsorship for Patron events.
  • Receive and assist members and prospects in the Membership Office
  • Attend evening events both at FIAF and outside the organization to build contacts and relationships
  • Provide strategic input and oversight of the multi-channel renewal, upgrade, and acquisition schedule for FIAF’s membership programs
  • Develop strategies to increase member loyalty and giving to FIAF
  • Develop and maintain relationship with Board members and upper level donors
  • Manage FIAF’s Youth Outreach Program with a visiting artist and a Bronx school

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s preferred, or combination of education and experience
  • 5-10 years experience, including managing a portfolio of donors and prospects
  • Non-profit experience and interest in arts/culture preferred
  • Native or fluency in English and French required
  • Team player with strong leadership skills

Graphic Designer

Position Summary: FIAF's graphic design team creates materials to support the organization's marketing, communications, and development campaigns. These materials include, but are not limited to, event calendars, brochures, newsletters, postcards, flyers, posters, invitations, print and online advertisements, journals, annual reports, and signage.

In this position, you will work to develop strong creative concepts that engage, attract, promote, and sell FIAF's cultural and educational programs, special events, and library. The designer will learn, work within, and help to grow/evolve FIAF's established style guidelines and strong visual identity.

Responsibilities & Duties (include but are not limited to):

  • Confer with FIAF's President, VP of Marketing & Communications, and all other relevant FIAF departments in order to determine creative concept, layout, and design of all FIAF materials.
  • Use a range of media including photography, illustration, and computer-aided design.
  • Work closely with VP of Marketing and departmental interns on the routing of materials and the overall production schedule.
  • Solicit and compile printing quotes/estimates, and manage relationships with printers and other external vendors.
  • Review final layouts and proofs, and coordinate edits/improvements.
  • Go on press for certain high-priority projects. Experience with commercial printing and the printing process a must.
  • Deftly manage multiple projects and time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Collaborate with IT department on software and hardware needs and issues, as well as FIAF's website, e-newsletters, and all digital media.
  • Art direct photo shoots when needed for promotional material.
  • Organize and manage in-house photographs and archival materials, and coordinate with external organizations to solicit photographic images, as needed.
  • Keep abreast of developments in design software, tools, formats, and trends.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent knowledge of French language preferred.
  • BFA in graphic design or related field, as well as demonstrable skills and talent in graphic design.

The FIAF Language Center is the largest language school dedicated to teaching the French language in the tri-state area. With more than 7,000 registrations annually, we offer French in three convenient locations: Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Brooklyn’s Carroll Gardens, and Montclair, NJ.

Position Summary: The Manager of Corporate and Individual instruction Programs, a full-time position, is responsible for the conception, development, organization and promotion of onsite and offsite individual and corporate instruction teaching programs for the Language Center of the French Institute Alliance Française, the largest French language school in the United States.

Main Responsibilities:The Manager is committed to the highest level of customer service and strives to foster excellent public relations as a key motivation. The Manager is under the direct supervision of the Vice President of Education of FIAF, and works with the other FIAF departments to ensure a coordinated and unified service.

  • The Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the FIAF Language Center: scheduling of classes and instructors, submission of proposals to clients, bidding, follow-up at the administrative and pedagogical levels, budgeting and billing, statistics, technology enhancements, reports and development of customized programs.

Our program offers a high level of language instruction through curricula that are specially designed to meet children's pedagogical needs at every stage of their development. All our classes provide an integrated approach to French language and culture.

Position Summary: The Kids and Teens Programs Coordinator organizes and works under the direction of the Youth Programs Director to coordinate, develop and implement FIAF’s Kids and Teens Programs. FIAF Kids & Teens’ Programs are comprised of: Kids and Teens’ Classes (ages 5-17); Workshops; Kids and Teens’ Summer Day Programs (ages 5-10 and 11-14); and Teens’ Summer Immersion Classes (ages 11-14 and 15-17).

Pedagogical

  • A minimum of two years’ experience in teaching French as a foreign language to a young audience

Public Relations Intern

Position Summary: We are looking for a highly motivated Public Relations (PR) Intern with loads of personality and a solid interest in learning about the industry and creating key working contacts.

The right candidate will help execute the department’s media strategy for the organization’s diverse programs, including: performing arts, film, visual arts, food and wine events, fashion, book events, etc. The intern will become familiarized with the New York media landscape while helping to secure coverage of FIAF’s broad range of cultural programming. He/she will be the right hand to the PR Director and support FIAF’s mission of increasing knowledge of the French language and interaction among French, Francophone, and American cultures.

What to expect:

  • On-the-job experience in the Marketing & Communications department and great exposure to the best of contemporary French culture in New York.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct daily media monitoring and organize/produce press books
  • Manage all event listings and help with pitching
  • Research new media outlets and update press lists
  • Collaborate on press releases for programs and events
  • Support the PR Director on-site at FIAF events

This position requires the candidate to be available between 7.30am and 9pm on weekdays, from 9am to 4pm on Saturdays.

The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) invites dynamic, experienced, and creative Teaching Artists to apply to our 2017-2018 In-School Arts Education Program. Teaching Artists in all disciplines are encouraged to apply.

The Program
FIAF matches Teaching Artists with public middle schools in under-served New York City neighborhoods to lead weekly, sequential arts workshops during regular school hours with classes of 15-25 students (1-3 per school). These workshops introduce students to Francophone cultures and a specific artistic discipline while empowering and inspiring students through the hands-on process of creating their own final projects.

At the end of each workshop, students’ final art projects are displayed in FIAF’s Gallery.

During the 2017-2018 school year, these workshops will span approximately 24 weeks between September 2017 and April 2018. Each class will participate for the full 24-week sequence.

Criteria

  • Native French speaker with excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Excellent teaching ability, including experience with classroom teaching and curriculum development. Prior experience with adolescents and NYC public schools a plus.
  • Artistic excellence, including quality and scope of artistic work and depth of knowledge within an artistic discipline.
  • Collaborative attitude and willingness to adapt to diverse student populations.
