Adult Programs Coordinator

The FIAF Language Center is the largest language school dedicated to teaching the French language in the tri-state area. With more than 7,000 registrations annually, we offer French in three convenient locations: Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Brooklyn’s Carroll Gardens, and Montclair, NJ.

In conjunction with its adult French language learning program, FIAF offers French language learning programs for toddlers (ages 1-4), kids (5-10) and teens (11-17) from beginner to advanced levels, including French for native-speakers.

Our program offers a high level of language instruction through curricula that are specially designed to meet adult’s pedagogical needs. All our classes provide an integrated approach to French language and culture.

The Adult Programs Coordinator organizes and works under the direction of the Vice President of Education to coordinate, develop and implement FIAF’s Adult programs.

Responsibilities

Pedagogical:

  • Develop and enrich the adult class offerings based on students’ feedback and current trends
  • Organize and lead teacher training sessions
  • Evaluate and improve teacher performance through regular classroom observations and coaching
  • Stay current with the latest methodology, pedagogical resources and technology for the teaching of French as a foreign language to an adult audience
  • Stay current with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
  • Teach adult classes and conduct placement tests occasionally

Teacher Management & Human Resources

  • Manage a team of about 60-75 teachers dedicated to the adult programs
  • Advise teachers on pedagogy, classroom management, and available resources
  • Identify the training needs of the pedagogical team
  • Recruit, train, and assist new instructors

Schedule Management:

  • Work with the VP of Education and Administrative Director to create a schedule of classes at the beginning of each session
  • Based on classrooms’ observations and students’ feedback, help with teachers’ class assignments at the beginning of each session
  • Oversee enrollment in adult programs, analyze enrollment data and adapt class offering and schedule accordingly
  • Assist with the registration process at the start of each session

Business Development:

  • Communicate program content and updates to both teachers and public and answer all related customer service inquiries
  • Meet with students, to ensure their satisfaction and re-enrollment , and with prospective students to educate the public about the programs
  • Foster a positive relationship between student and instructor and handle any conflicts that may arise
  • Stay current with the class offerings of our competitors for adult French learners to establish FIAF as a leader in the field
  • Participate in the elaboration and implementation of FIAF cultural programs for adults
  • Collaborate with FIAF sponsors
  • Nurture partnerships with major city cultural partners and FLE publishers

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Native French-speaker or equivalent proficiency
  • Master 1 or 2 minimum in the field of teaching French as a foreign language or DAEFLE (diplôme d’aptitude à l’enseignement du français langue étrangère)
  • An official teaching diploma is a plus
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in teaching French as a foreign language to an adult audience
  • Have good knowledge and understanding of the CEFRL (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
  • Must be knowledgeable on pedagogy as it relates to French language instruction for adults
  • Must be knowledgeable with technologies applied to the teaching of foreign languages; Experience with eLearning is a plus
  • Must be knowledgeable with Smart Board technology
  • Must demonstrate a strong capacity to work in a team environment
  • Must be able to adapt to multiple and shifting priorities, be meticulous, thorough and detail- oriented, and be able to meet deadlines and manage time effectively

Videographer Intern

Position Summary: The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) seeks a talented, creative, and experienced candidate for the open position of Videographer Intern. We are seeking to fill an unpaid, full-time internship lasting for a duration of 6-12 months.

Under the direction of the Vice President of Marketing & Communications and the Social Media Coordinator, the Videographer Intern is responsible for filming and editing all of FIAF’s video content. The intern will also be expected to play a role in the development of new video projects and the distribution of existing video assets.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining and organizing FIAF’s existing video assets
  • Brainstorming and developing new video projects
  • Creating and presenting storyboards
  • Writing scripts
  • Scouting locations and obtaining permits
  • Filming events at FIAF and around town
  • Maintaining equipment
  • Editing
  • Liaising with department heads and outside clients

Qualifications:

  • Must be comfortable editing in Final Cut Pro
  • Some knowledge of After Effects preferable
  • Familiarity with various types of cameras, lights, microphones, etc…
  • Extreme attention to detail
  • Organized and timely
  • Familiar with social media platforms
  • Fluent English required
  • Fluent French preferred
  • Passionate about France and Francophone Cultures

Teaching Artists

The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) invites dynamic, experienced, and creative Teaching Artists to apply to our 2015-2016 In-School Arts Education Program. Teaching Artists in all disciplines are encouraged to apply.

The Program
FIAF matches Teaching Artists with public middle schools in under-served New York City neighborhoods to lead weekly, sequential arts workshops during regular school hours with classes of 15-25 students (1-3 per school). These workshops introduce students to Francophone cultures and a specific artistic discipline while empowering and inspiring students through the hands-on process of creating their own final projects.

At the end of each workshop, students’ final art projects are displayed in FIAF’s Gallery.

During the 2015-2016 school year, these workshops will span approximately 24 weeks between September 2015 and April 2016. Each class will participate for the full 24-week sequence.

Criteria

  • Native French speaker with excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Excellent teaching ability, including experience with classroom teaching and curriculum development. Prior experience with adolescents and NYC public schools a plus.
  • Artistic excellence, including quality and scope of artistic work and depth of knowledge within an artistic discipline.
  • Collaborative attitude and willingness to adapt to diverse student populations.
