The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) is an American, private, not-for-profit 501(c)(3), non-governmental organization. It is a multi-disciplinary cultural organization. Its mission is to promote and enhance the knowledge and appreciation of French and Francophone culture, to increase the knowledge of the French language, and to encourage interaction among French, Francophone and American people through programs in education and the arts. FIAF's varied cultural programming (cinema, performing arts, visual arts, and social events), French and English language classes, and extensive library play a dynamic role in providing our students and members with a window on contemporary France.

Position Summary
The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) seeks an experienced candidate for our open position of Vice President of Development. Under the direction of the President, the Vice President of Development is responsible for overseeing all development efforts throughout the organization. This person will coordinate and manage FIAF’s corporate, foundation and individual fundraising efforts; lead FIAF’s Capital and Annual Support campaigns; successfully manage a 5-6 person development team. Candidates should have more than seven years of experience working in development in a cultural institution. All activities shall be conducted in a manner consistent with established policies and procedures to enable FIAF to achieve its defined goals and objectives.

Main Responsibilities

  • Implement strategic fundraising plan and financial goals for FIAF’s cultural and educational programs.
  • Identify and implement short-term and long-term fundraising goals, strategies and outcomes for FIAF’s cultural and educational programs.
  • Develop short and long-term strategy for department’s fundraising efforts.
  • Oversee all government and foundation grants.
  • Identify and cultivate individual and corporate donors and sponsors in conjunction with the President.
  • Cultivate existing relations and develop new prospects for sponsorships and partnerships.
  • Produce final reports, letters and other written materials supporting fund raising efforts.
  • Maintain and prepare progress and final reports required for internal (staff) and external (Board of Directors and general public) use.
  • Establish and maintain effective internal filing system for tracking actual and prospective donor gifts.
  • Manage all elements of FIAF’s donor recognition program.
  • Perform such other job related duties as may be periodically assigned by the President.
  • Coordinate efforts with the Vice Presidents of Programming, Marketing and Public Relations.
  • Interact with the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees.
  • Cooperate and work effectively and congenially with all staff members, volunteers, and members of FIAF.

Qualifications

  • Advanced spoken and written French language skills a must.
  • Should have a strong appreciation of French culture.
  • Longstanding relationships with corporate donors and foundations that support cultural programs in New York desired.
  • A minimum of a B.A degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university required.
  • A minimum of seven years of proven successful experience in fundraising in a cultural institution.
  • Must have held a position as a Senior Director in Development.
  • Basic financial skills required.
  • Must be proficient with Raiser’s Edge and other fundraising software.
  • Good human relations skills are essential, as is the ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment.

Technicians

The French Institute Alliance Francaise is seeking experienced non-union Lighting and Sound Technicians and Multi-Media Projectionists to expand our freelance crew call list. Located on the Upper East Side, FIAF has a full weekly schedule consisting of film, dance, theatre, concerts and conferences in our three spaces: Florence Gould Hall, Tinker Auditorium and Le Skyroom. 

Lighting Technicians must be proficient with general electrics knowledge (hang, focus, maintenance of gear).  Familiarity with the operation and programming of ETC Expression 3 and Express consoles, as well as small-scale lighting design experience, is a plus.

Sound Technicians must have a background in live sound reinforcement, with Front of House and Monitor mixing experience, as well as the ability to run theatrical cues and audio playback for multi-media.

Deck Hands must have experience with general back stage operation. Stage Managing experience a plus.

Le Centre de Langue du FIAF recrute

Des professeurs de FLE pour ses programmes adulte, adolescent et enfant (5-17 ans).

Le ou la candidat(e) doit :

  • avoir une expérience de l’enseignement à des adultes et/ou à des adolescents et/ou à des enfants
  • être diplômé(e) en français langue étrangère (Maîtrise FLE, DAEFLE ou équivalent)
  • être dynamique, enthousiaste, consciencieux(se), ouvert(e) aux nouvelles technologies, bon sens du relationnel
  • être disponible en soirées et le samedi (emploi rémunéré à l’heure)

Dans tous les cas, les candidats doivent être :
- de langue maternelle française
- en possession d’un permis de travail américain
