Vice President of Development

The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) seeks an experienced candidate for our open position of Vice President of Development. Reporting to and working closely with the President, the Vice President of Development also works with the Board of Trustees and is responsible for overseeing all development efforts throughout the organization. This person will coordinate and manage FIAF’s corporate, foundation, individual, special events, and government fundraising efforts; lead FIAF’s Annual, Capital, and Endowment Support campaigns; and successfully manage a 4-person development team. Candidates should have at least a B.A. degree and ten years of experience working in development in a cultural institution and have a working knowledge of French culture and language.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising plan in collaboration with FIAF President.
  • Collaborate with FIAF VP Finance and FIAF President to develop an annual budget for fundraising activities.
  • Plan and execute fundraising initiatives to secure funding for cultural and educational programs.
  • Develop the portfolio of individual gifts, Corporate Members, and foundations and create productive relationships with major donors to deepen their engagement with FIAF and grow financial support.
  • Manage and follow through on all elements of a donor recognition program.
  • Represent FIAF and develop positive relations with organization and businesses.
  • Develop public relations, promotional, and marketing strategy with the VP Marketing.
  • Prepare copy for FIAF newsletters and other written materials for fundraising.
  • Develop and implement plans for the Capital Campaign.
  • Maintain and prepare required statistical reports necessary for internal (staff) and external (Board of Trustees and general public) reporting.
  • Work with FIAF finance department to ensure proper maintenance of donor records including necessary billing.
  • Supervise the maintenance of all development-related contacts and data.
  • Perform other job-related duties as may be periodically assigned by the President.

Qualifications

  • Senior fundraising and management experience with increasing responsibility and achievements in a cultural or public service field.
  • Successful track record of securing corporate sponsorship, closing individual gifts, and overseeing fundraising events.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • In-depth knowledge of the New York donor base.  
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment.
  • Conversant French required; advanced French preferred.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience of researching and maintaining timely and accurate donor information.

Marketing Coordinator for the Language Center

The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) is seeking a highly-organized, self-motivated Marketing Coordinator for Language Center to work with the Vice President of Marketing & Communications to develop, implement, and oversee the execution of marketing for FIAF’s Language Center.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Work with the VP to devise and implement new strategies for acquisition of new Language Center students and new FIAF members in addition to retention of current students and members
  • Oversee design process (submission, routing, confirmation) of all FIAF marketing print materials and publications related to Language Center
  • Write and edit copy ranging from marketing materials to class descriptions
  • Track and analyze progress in registrations for each session
  • Conceive and manage all ad buys (print and digital) and place all advertising related to LC
  • Plan and execute seasonal direct mail campaigns
  • Assist in creation of marketing plans, market analysis, and recommendations for class offerings
  • Create regular reports assessing effectiveness of marketing campaigns
  • Work with VP M&C as well as the VP of the Language Center to identify and research targets for cross promotion and partnerships
  • Work with PR to ensure regular listings for Language Center programs and provide writing support for press releases for Language Center programs
  • Research key trends in foreign language education and PR coverage for education (Education issues, summer camp issues)
  • Regularly benchmark competition and asses our offerings
  • Help create and analyze student surverys
  • Ensure all marketing activities are aligned with the FIAF brand

Qualifications

  • BA in Marketing, Communications, or related field
  • Preferred 3+ years demonstrated professional growth in marketing or related field
  • Preferred experience in an academic environment and/or new client acquisition
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills
  • Strong project management skills required
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities successfully
  • Ability to work independently; prioritize tasks; and exercise good judgment and initiative
  • Available to attend occasional evening events
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills (written and verbal)

Graphic Designer

The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF), a New York-based nonprofit organization dedicated to French language and culture, is seeking a graphic designer.

FIAF’s graphic design team creates materials to support the organization’s marketing, communications, and development campaigns. These materials include, but are not limited to, event calendars, brochures, newsletters, postcards, flyers, posters, invitations, print and online advertisements, journals, annual reports, and signage.

In this position, you will work with FIAF’s on-site, full-time graphic designer as well as a Paris-based artistic director (on certain projects), in order to develop strong creative concepts that engage, attract, promote, and sell FIAF’s cultural and educational programs, special events, and library. The designer will learn, work within, and help to grow/evolve FIAF’s established style guidelines and strong visual identity.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Confer with FIAF’s President, VP of Marketing & Communications, Marketing Coordinator, and all other relevant FIAF departments in order to determine creative concept, layout, and design of all FIAF materials.
  • Use a range of media including photography, illustration, and computer-aided design.
  • Work closely with VP of Marketing and departmental interns on the routing of materials and the overall production schedule.
  • Solicit and compile printing quotes/estimates, and manage relationships with printers and other external vendors.
  • Review final layouts and proofs, and coordinate edits/improvements.
  • Go on press for certain high-priority projects. Experience with commercial printing and the printing process a must.
  • Deftly manage multiple projects and time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Collaborate with IT department on software and hardware needs and issues, as well as FIAF’s website, e-newsletters, and all digital media.
  • Art direct photo shoots when needed for promotional material.
  • Organize and manage in-house photographs and archival materials, and coordinate with external organizations to solicit photographic images, as needed.
  • Keep abreast of developments in design software, tools, formats, and trends.

Qualifications

  • BFA in graphic design or related field, as well as demonstrable skills and talent in graphic design
  • Strong capacity to work in a team environment and to synthesize input from different sources
  • Must be able to adjust to multiple and shifting priorities, be meticulous, thorough and detailed; be able to meet deadlines and manage time effectively
  • Must be experienced in InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. HTML/Flash/motion knowledge a plus
  • Strong sensitivity to typography, color building/relationships, and offset printing
  • Good photography skills, including understanding of digital photography and retouching a plus
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal departments and external partners
  • Positive attitude and outstanding work ethic
  • Sense of humor
