Join author and managing director of the Times Literary Supplement James MacManus for a discussion of his new book Black Venus, released in May 2013.
Black Venus centers on the torrid love affair between the renowned French poet Charles Baudelaire and the Haitian cabaret singer Jeanne Duval, whom Baudelaire called his “Black Venus.” Played out against the backdrop of 19th-century Paris, their fiery relationship became the catalyst for Baudelaire’s most celebrated work Les Fleurs du Mal (The Flowers of Evil). A moving portrait of the famous poet and his maligned muse.
The talk will be followed by a book signing.
