Kids embark on an exciting summer adventure, en français, as they discover France through famous French chefs, authors, artists, book characters, fashion icons, space travelers and more!

Kids will laugh, play, explore, and stay active all summer long during week-long day camps. Each day includes language lessons plus a variety of activities including cooking, art, music, yoga, and more.

Whether your child is brand new to French or already proficient, these day camps will help them learn and improve their French while having fun and making new friends.

Registration recommended by April 15 to secure your preferred dates.

 

Summer 2019

Ages 6-8: Children enrolled in Grades 1-3 for the school year 2019-2020.
Ages 9-10: Children enrolled in Grades 4-6 for the school year 2019-2020.

Open to all levels of French including native French-speaking kids.

June 24–28 Go Around the World with Tintin
The comic books created by Hergé featuring Tintin, a young reporter and adventurer, were one of the most popular European comics of the 20th century.Inspired by Tintin's travels around the world, kids will explore a new country each day and create models and paper cuts of famous monuments and landmarks. Kids enrolled in the full-day program will create a photo-comic based on one of Tintin’s adventures.
July 1–5
(no class July 4)
Solve a Mystery with Arsène Lupin
In 1905, French writer Maurice Leblanc created Arsène Lupin, a gentleman thief and master of disguise. During this week, kids will solve a mystery with Lupin. They will create disguises and explore the field of forensic science through fun experiments. In full-day program, kids will create their very own mystery board game. Presented in partnership with The Monclair Learning Center STEM program.
July 8–12 Cook & Bake with Paul Bocuse
Paul Bocuse was a famous French chef based in Lyon, France. He was known for his award-winning restaurants and innovative approach to cuisine. Each day, kids will study one of Bocuse's recipes and cook or bake the sweet or savory item. They will learn about food, fruits, and vegetables. Kids enrolled in the full-day program will create their own digital illustrated cookbook. On the last day of camp, they will enjoy a three-course lunch that they will plan and prepare themselves.
July 15–19 Design with Mademoiselle Chanel
French fashion designer Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel founded her namesake brand in 1910. In addition to couture clothing, she soon extended her influence and aesthetic to jewelry, handbag, and fragrance design. Each day, kids will practice stitching and knitting, and create their own fashion accessories using different materials and fabrics. In the full-day program, kids will create their own fragrance and cosmetics line.
July 22–26 Explore Space with Thomas Pesquet
Kids will learn about Thomas Pesquet, a French aerospace engineer, pilot, and astronaut who was part of NASA's Expedition 50 and Expedition 51 crew. Each day, kids will explore space and the cosmos and study a different planet. They will learn about travelling on a space shuttle and daily life on the International Space Station. They will create a rocket, an astronaut suit, and other space artifacts. Kids in the full-day program will design and build their own space robot. Presented in partnership with The Monclair Learning Center STEM program.
July 29–August 2 Save the Planet with Yann Arthus-Bertrand
Yann Arthus-Bertrand is an environmentalist, journalist and photographer. His films, Home and Human, about the impact of humans on the planet are critically acclaimed. Inspired by these films and his book Earth from Above, kids will study environmental challenges and endangered species and their habitats. They will explore different landscapes and create objects from recycled materials, and learn how to create a sustainable future. Kids in the full-day program will produce a mini-documentary to raise awareness about the environment.
August 5–9 Circus Fun with Annie Fratellini
French circus artist, singer, actress and clown Annie Fratellini is a member of one of Europe's most illustrious clown dynasties. She created the Nouveau Cirque de Paris, a circus and a school that later became the Académie Fratellini, one of France's two major state-sponsored circus schools. Kids will learn about animals and performers and discover magic tricks and circus acts with a trained circus artist. They will learn coordination skills while practicing diablo and juggling, and develop strength and balance through basic acrobatic exercises. Kids in the full-day program will create and perform their own circus show under the direction of a real circus artist.
August 12–16 Sing with Victor Hugo
A poet, novelist, and dramatist of the Romantic movement, Victor Hugo is one of the greatest and best-know French writers. Kids will discover Paris, its neighborhoods and iconic monuments with the famous characters of his book Notre Dame de Paris. They will create a pop-up map to explore the French capital. Kids in the full-day program will learn and interpret songs from the famous French musicals based on Hugo’s novels, Notre Dame de Paris and Les Misérables. French singer and pianist Violette will perform and instruct.

*No class on July 4. Price for July 1–5 is pro-rated.

Typical Day

8-9:30am: Childcare (optional)
9:30-9:45am: Drop-off and welcome
9:45-10am: Assembly
10-11am: French Class
11-11:15am: Goûter (snack)
11:15am-12:15pm: Individual project
12:15-12:30pm: Cleaning time, goodbyes and dismissal (half-day option)
12:30-1pm: Lunch time
1-3:15pm: Themed project
3:15-3:30pm: Cleaning time, goodbyes and dismissal.
3:30-5pm: Childcare (optional)

Before-camp & After-camp Childcare:

— Morning 8-9:30am for $70 per week
— Afternoon 3:30-5pm for $70 per week

Discounts

10% when you enroll in multiple sessions (non-consecutive allowed) of this program.
5% when you enroll siblings, regardless of age and program.

To take advantage of the discounts, be sure to register all at once.
Discounts cannot be combined with any other FIAF discount except refer-a-friend.

Childcare fees are excluded from any discounts.

Instructions

Children must bring their own snack (all camps) and a cold lunch (full day camps). A list of necessary clothing, arrival and dismissal arrangements, medical forms, and other pertinent paperwork will be mailed via email to parents before the start of the session. FIAF is not responsible for any lost belongings. Please clearly label all belongings with your child’s name.

 

Read Policies

Refund Policy
No refunds will be issued after May 31.
Before May 31, a cancellation fee, $150 for full day option and $85 for half day option, will be deducted from the refund amount. After May 31, you may withdraw any time before the start of the session for a credit minus the cancellation fee. No withdrawals are accepted after the start of a session. There are no allowances for absences, early withdrawals, or late starts. There is no pro-rating of fees. Additional FIAF policies apply, read here.

Emergency Contact Form
You must fill out an emergency contact form before the start of the summer session that your child is attending. The form will be sent to you via email before the start of the session. Your child may not attend class until this form is received. You only need to fill out the form once if your child is attending multiple sessions or programs over the summer.

Absence and Early Release Policy
If your child must leave early, written notice from a parent or guardian is required 24 hours in advance. There are no make-up classes for absences. FIAF must be notified if a child will be absent.

Every effort will be made to keep students with others of the same level. However programs are subject to change depending on enrollment and teacher availability.
